10-Days Uganda Gorillas and Chimpanzee Wildlife Discovery
Mountain gorillas are the headline here, but this trip earns its keep long before you reach Bwindi. You get chimpanzee tracking in Kibale, lions and elephants in two major parks, and boat trips where hippos crowd the water. The wildlife variety is the big draw.
I especially like the private 4×4 setup, with a pop-up roof, fridge, Wi-Fi, charging ports, air conditioning, and drinking water on board. I also like the pacing: two nights in Murchison Falls and Kibale, two nights around Queen Elizabeth, then a quieter stay at Lake Mutanda before the gorilla trek.
The tradeoff is road time. Day 2 and Day 10 can take most of the day, and several other transfers are long. This is an active safari, not a soft resort holiday, and the gorilla hike can last anywhere from two to seven hours.

Why this Uganda route works so well

Uganda gives you more than one big wildlife moment. You move from open savannah to river country, then into thick forest and highland scenery. The route also mixes active outings with quiet lodge time, which matters when you are spending hours in a vehicle or walking through dense forest.
The tour begins and ends around Kampala or Entebbe, with airport pickup included. You travel as a private group, so the driver and guide can focus on your party rather than a large coachload. The start time is listed as 6:30 a.m., though airport arrivals are handled with a transfer to the first hotel.
Pamoja Tours and Travel uses safari vehicles with a roof that opens for wildlife viewing. That detail is more important than it sounds. You can stand or sit beneath the raised roof for a better view of animals, while the fridge, charging ports, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and onboard water make long drives easier.
The listed guides include Rita, Ben, Martin, Amos, Emma, Spirit, and David. Guide quality matters greatly in Uganda, since your guide handles long road days, park timing, animal sightings, and the practical details of forest permits. A good guide also helps you understand animal behavior instead of treating each sighting as a quick photo stop.

Day 1: A gentle arrival in Entebbe

Your first day is deliberately simple. A Pamoja representative collects you at the airport and takes you to Via Via Guest House in Entebbe. The rooms are furnished in a comfortable safari style, giving you a quiet place to sleep after your international flight.
All meals and drinking water are included on this day. You meet your driver and guide the following morning, so Day 1 is best treated as a reset rather than a sightseeing day.
That is a sensible choice. Uganda’s main parks are reached by road, and starting the safari rested is better than trying to squeeze in an extra activity after a long flight.
Days 2 and 3: Murchison Falls and the Nile
Day 2 is a long transfer from Kampala across the country to Murchison Falls National Park. At more than 3,840 square kilometers, it is Uganda’s largest conservation area. The journey takes time, but it introduces you to the changing scenery of Uganda before the wildlife program begins.
You spend two nights at Pakuba Safari Lodge, built near the River Nile. The safari tent has proper furnishings and sits on level ground overlooking the river. There is also a swimming pool, a welcome feature after a full day on the road.
Day 3 begins early, and it should. Cooler temperatures and softer morning light make the first game drive the best time to search for animals. In the northern section of the park, you may see elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, antelopes, and many bird species.
No safari can promise every animal, especially a leopard, but this route gives you a strong mix of open-country wildlife. The roof of the vehicle is useful here, letting you scan the grassland without a window frame in the way.
The afternoon boat safari heads upstream on the Nile toward Murchison Falls. The river draws crocodiles, hippos, buffaloes, water birds, monkeys, and other animals to the water. It is a different kind of wildlife viewing from a game drive, with the boat providing a steady position and close views of life along the banks.
After the boat trip, you hike to the top of the falls. The water is the star, but the combination of river, wildlife, and walking gives the day a good sense of variety. Wear shoes with a firm grip, since the excursion includes both a boat outing and a hike.
Day 4: Tea country on the way to Kibale

The drive to Kibale National Park is another long road day, but the scenery helps. You pass tea plantations and green countryside before reaching the forest area.
A packed lunch is included, and the late afternoon is left for rest at Kibale Forest Camp. You stay in a safari tent and have time to enjoy views of the forest and nearby wildlife rather than rushing into another scheduled activity.
This pause is useful. The next morning requires an early start and a forest walk, so you should resist the temptation to treat every free hour as another excursion.

Day 5: Chimpanzees and Kibale’s smaller primates

Kibale National Park is the primate center of this itinerary. Around 5,000 chimpanzees live in Uganda, and the park is one of the country’s main places to search for them.
An experienced ranger leads the chimpanzee tracking outing in either the morning or afternoon. Once the chimpanzees are located, you are allowed up to one hour with them. That time limit protects the animals and gives you enough time to watch their movement, calls, feeding, and social behavior without turning the encounter into a rushed sighting.
The walk itself may be as interesting as the chimpanzees. Kibale has several primate species, and you might see three or four types during the outing. The great blue turaco is another prized sighting, especially for bird lovers.
The itinerary also refers to a swamp walk through grassland, local communities, and scenic countryside. People along the route may greet you with enthusiastic waves, adding a human element to the forest visit.
Chimpanzee habituation is offered as an optional activity at extra cost. The standard permit is already included, but you should ask Pamoja for the current price and exact structure if you want the longer habituation experience. It is worth considering only if primates are your main reason for choosing Uganda and you are comfortable with a more demanding day.
Day 6: Queen Elizabeth National Park

You have a quieter morning at Kibale before transferring to Queen Elizabeth National Park. That slower start breaks up the road work and gives you a chance to enjoy the camp before moving on.
Queen Elizabeth sits below the Rwenzori Mountains and beside Lake Edward and Lake George. Its open grassland supports Uganda kob, gazelles, warthogs, waterbucks, buffaloes, elephants, and hippos. Lions can be seen in the park and sometimes near its entrance, while leopards are possible but never guaranteed.
The late afternoon game drive is a good introduction. Morning drives often have the best temperatures, but late afternoon brings softer light and animals beginning to move again. You spend the night at Irungu Forest Safari Lodge, with all meals and drinking water included.
Day 7: Early game viewing and the Kazinga Channel

Day 7 starts before sunrise. Coffee, tea, and doughnuts are served at the lodge before you head out for a long game drive.
This is one of the strongest wildlife days of the trip. You search for elephants, buffaloes, lions, waterbucks, leopards, Uganda kob, and warthogs. The early departure means you need to be ready the night before, but the cooler air and first light make the effort worthwhile.
In the afternoon, you cruise the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake George and Lake Edward. The channel is known for its concentration of hippos, and you can also expect crocodiles, buffaloes, elephants at the water, and many birds.
I like the balance here. The morning is about searching across open ground, while the afternoon puts you in one place with wildlife coming to drink, bathe, or rest. The boat also gives your legs a break after the long morning drive.
Day 8: Lake Mutanda and the Virunga views

The drive to Lake Mutanda takes you into southwestern Uganda, close to the borders with Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The road passes through countryside and bamboo forest, with views toward the Virunga Mountains.
Lunch at a local restaurant is not included, so carry some Ugandan shillings or confirm the preferred payment method with the operator before leaving. It is one of the few clearly stated meal exceptions in an itinerary that otherwise covers breakfast, lunch, and dinner on most days.
Mutanda Lake Resort sits on a peninsula and serves as a base for the gorilla trek the following day. Its position between Kisoro, Mgahinga, and Bwindi makes it practical, but the setting is the real appeal. The lake and mountain views provide a change from safari drives and forest walking.
This overnight also gives you a chance to slow down. You can enjoy the scenery, organize your day pack, and prepare clothing for a muddy or wet forest hike.
Day 9: Gorilla tracking in Bwindi
This is the emotional center of the journey. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to habituated mountain gorilla families, and your group spends a maximum of one hour with the gorillas once they are found.
The walk can take as little as two hours or as long as seven. That range is not a minor detail. You need sturdy walking shoes, clothing that can handle rain and mud, water, and enough physical stamina for steep or dense forest conditions. The permit is included for one non-resident, but the permit does not make the forest walk easy.
Bwindi also supports other primates, mammals, butterflies, and birds, so keep looking beyond the gorillas. Still, the gorilla encounter is the reason most people accept the cost and effort of this route.
The one-hour limit is part of responsible wildlife tourism. The gorillas are habituated to brief human visits, not constant contact. Listen closely to your ranger, keep the required distance, and let the family’s behavior guide the mood of the encounter.
If you want a longer gorilla-focused program, Pamoja also lists habituation-related activities elsewhere in its offerings. Do not assume that option is part of this 10-day package. Ask before booking.
Day 10: The long return to Entebbe
After breakfast, you drive back toward Kampala or Entebbe Airport. This is another very long day, listed at about 11 hours, so schedule an evening departure only if your flight time allows a comfortable buffer.
The route includes a stop at the equator for photographs and souvenir shopping. It is a simple stop, but it breaks up the drive and gives you a final travel memory before the airport.
Your final-night accommodation is not included. If you leave Uganda that evening, this may not matter. If your flight is the next day, arrange an extra night in Kampala or Entebbe through Pamoja or independently.
What the $4,800 price really covers
At $4,800 per person, this is not a budget safari. The price becomes easier to judge once you account for what is included: park fees, one gorilla permit, one chimpanzee permit, accommodation, private transport, a professional driver and guide, airport transfers, taxes, drinking water, and the listed meals.
Gorilla permits alone are a major part of a Uganda trip, and chimpanzee permits add another substantial cost. Including both means you are paying for the two signature forest experiences rather than adding them later.
The mid-range lodging is another practical strength. You get safari tents and lodges with comfort, views, and facilities such as a swimming pool at Pakuba. This is not a luxury lodge circuit, so do not book it expecting high-end extras or polished resort service at every stop.
You still need money for international flights, visa fees, travel insurance, souvenirs, tips, and the final night. The suggested tip is $10 per person per day. Government increases in taxes or park fees are also excluded.
Who should book this safari
I would choose this trip if you want Uganda’s major wildlife experiences in one route and prefer private transport over a shared group. It suits people who are excited by primates but also want classic game drives, river wildlife, birds, and varied scenery.
It is less suitable if you dislike long drives or need a slow, relaxed holiday. The route covers a lot of ground, and the gorilla trek demands real effort. Families and most generally fit adults can participate, but the forest walk should be taken seriously.
The strongest practical features are the included permits, the private vehicle, onboard water, and the balanced use of boat safaris. The most praised service details include friendly, professional guides and well-equipped 4×4 vehicles. Guides such as David, Rita, Ben, Martin, Amos, Emma, and Spirit are named by the operator, but your assigned guide should be confirmed before departure.
Booking confirmation is provided at the time of purchase. The tour requires a minimum number of people, and cancellations for that reason come with a different date or experience, or a full refund. For your own cancellation, a full refund requires at least six full days’ notice, with smaller refunds available closer to departure under the stated terms.
Should you book the 10-day Uganda Gorillas and Chimpanzee Wildlife Discovery?
Book it if gorillas and chimpanzees are your priority, but you also want a proper safari rather than a forest-only trip. The combination of Bwindi, Kibale, Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth, and Lake Mutanda gives you a broad look at Uganda in ten days.
Skip it if you want luxury, short transfers, or plenty of unplanned free time. For everyone else, the included permits and private safari vehicle make the $4,800 cost reasonable for a carefully packed Uganda route. Confirm the exact guide, gorilla sector, vehicle details, and final-night plan before paying, then prepare for long roads and one extraordinary forest day.
